Lip Piercing Guide.

About a month and
a half ago, I did something that most rebellious teenagers do during these
years. I gave myself a piercing. On my lip. In my opinion (and
the opinion of a professional piercer at the mall) I did it
right. I guess part my success came from the fact that I also pierced my
ear lobes and the cartilage on both ears. I would not suggest even
attempting to pierce your own lip unless you have a somewhat strong pain
tolerance. You don’t have to be some body building hardass, but there will be
some pain involved. This guide will talk about how to pierce your own lip, how
to clean the piercing and the jewelry after the fact, and some other
warnings about having a lip piercing.

 

How to
Pierce Your Own Lip 

 

Supplies

• A needle (preferably a hollow one. A thick
  pin also works)
• Some alcohol. (the cleaning kind)
• Ice or an ice pack.
• A lip ring, stud..whatever you want to put
  in.
• A marker or pen
• Some patience

 

Okay, before you
even think about starting, don’t pierce your lip unless you have suitable body
jewelry. Use a steel or surgical steel ring or stud (labret). If you use some
grungy earring, your chance of getting an infection will increase. Go to an
actual body jewelry store. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out. In
addition, try to make sure that your jewelry and the needle are of
a similar gauge (size). It is very unpleasant shoving a 16g lip ring
into an 18 or 20g hole.

 

Step 1:
Calm down

 

When I first
started piercing myself, one of the problems I ran into was my nerves. I shake
a bit, and get a little stressed. Take a few deep breaths. Take this calming
time to clean your instruments of body modification. A lip piercing is not
something you want to mess up.

 

Step 2:
Choose the location.

 

One of the most
significant decisions you have to make is where you’re getting it pierced.
Personally, I did mine on the left side. If you’re using a ring, you can put it
on your lip to see if it looks good. Use a marker or pen to make a dot where
you want the needle to go through. Make sure the marker or pen is
pretty..waterproof.

 

Step 3:
Ice yourself.

 

Take an ice
pack or some ice cubes in a plastic baggie. Place it on the spot where the
piercing will be and hold it there until it begins getting numb. When you can
successfully touch it and pinch it with no discomfort, then you are ready.

 

Step 4:
The initial stab

 

Most places that
give how to guides on piercing tell you to go through the inside. Personally, I
think it’s easier to do it from the outside. It’s also easier to see exactly
where the needle is going through your lip. Now, make sure you are calm. Take a
few deep breaths. Take the needle and align the point with the dot drawn under
your lip. Make sure that you have it at a straight angle. Take a
deep breath. Release this breath as you shove the needle through the dot. Try
to get at least a little bit inside of your lip, it doesn’t have to go through
the entire lip yet. Yes, it will hurt. If you numbed yourself correctly,
then it won’t hurt as much as just doing it without ice. KEEP THE NEEDLE IN
YOUR LIP! Take another deep breath, and repeat the process. It might be easier
if you “flatten” out your lip and push your lip into the needle. This should
only be done by someone who has good coordination. You really don’t want the needle
going through sideways. If you start to get frustrated, just stop pushing and
relax. Take a few deep breaths, sit down and chill out for a little. You might
want to put some music on and take out the needle while numbing your lip with
more ice. Clean up blood if you had some come out. Continue this process until
you have a hole going straight through your lip and coming out through your
mouth.

 

Step 5:
Inserting your jewelry.

 

Once you have
successfully pierced your lip, it is important to work fast to get some jewelry
in. I would also suggest cleaning the hole before putting something in.
Like I mentioned in the beginning, do not pierce your lip unless you have a
piece of jewelry intended for a lip, and not a cheapy crap metal. If you
can’t put a ring in, have someone else do it for you. Make sure they wash their
hands well. You don’t want them giving you an infection after all you’ve been
through! I would suggest having a labret in your lip until the wound is
healed and not all gross and raw. It will prevent you from messing with it that
much. When you put in your jewelry, check and see if it is all in correctly,
and any back or bead is inserted. Do not use an earring or an earring back for
jewelry. The earring itself may be okay, but when you have a traditional
earring back, the metal will dig into your lip causing a nasty sore and a huge
indent on the inside of your lip. It is also easier to swallow the earring back
if it isn’t made for a lip stud. Use the flat back that came with your labret.

 

Cleaning
your piercing.

 

If you have done
some research, you will see that people have many different opinions about how
to clean a piercing. Some say to use salt water, some say salt water is bad if
you don’t get the right balance. Some say to use alcohol or
Listerine. Some say alcohol makes the hole not heal right. My safest bet is to
go to a body jewelry store or a piercing parlor and ask them. They will usually
have some sort of solution sold in their stores. Chances are, if it’s being
sold in a reputable place, it will probably be good. Use the solution when you
wake up, before you go to bed, and after every time you eat. Basically, every
time that you do something that could dirty your mouth a lot. You don’t have to
be crazy with it.

 

The
Healing Process

 

A lot of people
ask me how long it takes for a lip piercing to heal properly. Well, that all
depends on how fast your body heals. You know, that’s common knowledge. For
mine, it’s been almost 2 months and I can successfully pull on/play with my lip
ring without it hurting. Expect a newly pierced lip to ooze a little bit of pus
for the first few days. It’s perfectly normal. It just means you’re healing.
However, if you do think you have an infection it would be a wise decision to
ask a doctor or even a school nurse. If it turns out that you have an
infection, please take out your jewelry. Having some metal in your face isn’t
worth possibly losing your lip.

 

Other
precautions:

 

Having a lip ring
isn’t as glamorous as you’d think. I love my lip piercing, but sometimes it
really bothers me. Expect to be criticized for having it. Either that or pretty
much idolized. It’s weird how it works. Below, I will have a list of things I
love and things I hate about having my lip pierced.

 

Things I hate
about my lip piercing:

1. Getting caught on things.
2. The captive bead coming out.
3. Let’s be honest here, it hurts for
   the first few weeks.
4. Getting made fun of.
5. Being judged as a “Goth” or an “Emo” and
   therefore insulted for it.
6. The constant questions that
   the people in my school ask about it.
7. My mom yells at me for it.
8. Getting food stuck in it. (I’m tryna
   eat! Not saving it for later!)
9. Not being able to easily apply lip
   balm/lipstick.
10. Guys creepin’ on me because of it
11. My boyfriend pulling on it.
12. Not being able to smoke anything. (Both of my
    mom’s smoke. I’m supposed to stay away from it. Yes.. I live
    with two women)
13. The fact that next year I have to take
    it out during gym. DX

 

Things I love
about my lip piercing:

 

1. Being able to play with it during class.
2. Knowing that I have the courage to pierce my
   own body.
3. The individuality that it gives me.
4. Being able to change out the jewelry when I
   want. It’s cute to have matching outfits and lip rings
5. The conversations I have with people about
   it.
6. The fact that my boyfriend likes playing with
   it.
7. It takes the attention away from the beauty
   mark on my chin.
8. It adds a bit more flair to my style.
   (Something between punk and Goth)
9. My mom hates it, so I purposely press it on
   her when I hug or kiss her. XD
10. My friends think it’s cute. I agree.
11. I am learning more about the human body
    through my piercing education.
12. I am considering going into body piercing as
    a job.
13. I can’t think of any more reasons.

 

So if you’re
prepared to deal with the “Bad” list, go ahead and pierce your own lip!
It’s always better to get it done professionally, but the fact of the matter is
that some people can’t afford it. Either that or they..weren’t allowed..

I haven’t left yet…

I’m just posting this post to let
people know that I haven’t quit blogging yet. Sorry haters, I’m still here.

Basically, it’s the last week of
school after today. The past few weeks I’ve just been so busy that I haven’t
even been able to make a small post. I apologize.

Right now I am writing a guide on
how to pierce your own lip and care for it afterword. It’s a pretty long post….

I’ve also been really busy with
other things. You know, drama.

When school is over, I’ll be able
to write many more posts.

For those who are into makeup and

Basically, my blog has only been
able to be updated during a 30 minute study hall period. So you can see why I

Opposing Viewpoints: Why do they matter?

Disclaimer: If you don’t
like my opinions in this blog post, then you are proving me right. For once, I
am not sorry if I offend anyone with this post. If you want to complain about
what I say, then go to the blog of someone who cares about your opinion. Don’t
comment if you have nothing good to say.

So, I’m pretty sure that I am one
of those people who hate the human race. Why? Because we’re so messed up.

I guess this post is being
written because I am fed up with human beings being such hypocrites, myself
included. If we become extinct, we have ourselves to blame. Okay I may have
lost some of your attention there. Please read on.

My disgust of the human race
started to grow just recently. In my 9th Grade Honors History class (me saying
that it’s Honors is proof that I am in fact educated) we started watching tons
of war videos related to WWII. Many of these videos brought me to tears. Some
made me nauseous. Others just irritated me. Why do human beings find it
necessary to kill their own species?? We’re all the same. Regardless of color,
gender, religion, political view, and more.

I’m not trying to spew one of
those “America is awful” speeches. No, that would be foolish. Germany, Japan,
Russia, and a bunch more countries did some pretty disturbing things during
WWII. Some worse than others. The reason these conflicts were born is stupid.
Prejudice and imperialism. That’s it. If people would get down off of the
throne they hoisted themselves on top of, there wouldn’t be such prejudice in
this world. I’m not denying that there are some pretty wretched people out
there. Trust me, there are. These people are not wretched because of what
country they reside in, what god they pray to, or what color they are.

I’m gonna throw out one of my
biggest questions now. Why are atomic and nuclear bombs being made? To
exterminate cities, countries, civilizations. Millions of people fell victim to
the bombings on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. To put it into perspective, they did at
Pearl Harbor too. I’m not denying that the Japanese were wrong. Maybe if the
United States had paid more attention to Code Purple, the code used by
Japanese, they would have realized that those radio transmissions were their
warning. They could have loaded their planes and ships and attacked back. Yet
they didn’t. 2 wrongs don’t make a right. I thought everyone’s parents told
them that. Bombing innocent people is wrong. Regardless of the reason. I guess
what irritates me the most is that people died for DECADES after these bombings
from cancer and other medical issues. That’s just messed up. That’s unfair.

Even more unfair were the death
and concentration camps set up by the infamous Adolf Hitler. Millions
slaughtered. Why? The stupidest things. One of the biggest populations of
people put in these camps were the Jewish. They weren’t the only group in there
though. Gypsies, homosexuals, blacks, and just people that Hitler didn’t like.
Once inside these camps, they are starved, beaten, mistreated, and generally
killed. Disgusting experiments were conducted on small innocent
children. People who were once healthy and happy, now live in fear every
second of their life as a walking skeleton. This is why it disturbs me that
people claim the Holocaust never happened. Anyone who tries to disprove the
amount of proof that the world has is a complete idiot. Simple as that. It’s disgusting.
I would like to see them go through that much pain and see if they are strong
enough to come out of it alive and be able to discuss it with others.

I’m going to try and stop being
so politcal now.  Ireally want to know why homosexuality is still so taboo
in America. I think they should be over it by now. As some of you might have
guessed, I am a member of the LGBT party. I am a bisexual woman. I have to deal
with other people’s prejudice every day of my life. I have been threatened on
occasion. What I want to know is this. Where does it say that homosexuality is
wrong besides certain religions? Nowhere. Love is love. It shouldn’t matter
what “team you play for”. If someone’s against it, then I guess they should be
happy that they aren’t gay. If not, then why does it matter?

There’s the same prejudice over
religions. People have been slaughtered because of not having the same religion
as everyone else. Why do human’s feel the need to do this to their own kind? I
believe that human life is something worth protecting. There is no reason for
innocent people to die just for being gay, or being an atheist. Why can’t we
all love each other? Why can’t we grow the hell up and accept the fact that
there are some people in the world that may think differenty then we do?
Equality would really be a sacred thing. If only the world was strong enough to
understand it.

Relationship Drama of The Past 2 Months

My life has actually been doing pretty
good lately. Things are starting to look up for me.

I haven’t been posting about
myself much lately simply because I haven’t had the time. And well.. my life
was pretty boring.

I broke up with that Emilee girl
and started dating Michael (not the one I mentioned before). I dumped her
because apparently she was just using me for her own sexual fulfillment. She
even told me herself that she was only with me at first because she wanted to
use me as a one night stand but then “fell in love with me” more like.. “fell
in love with my body” She took me to her school dance, only to ignore me the
entire time. That brings me to how I got with Michael. I had been talking to
him for the past month or two and thought he was absolutely amazing. There was
just SOMETHING about him that I liked. A lot. When I went to Emilee’s dance, I
begged Michael to go because I wanted to meet him in person. While Emilee was
ignoring me because she was too ashamed, I was talking to Michael. Emilee then
complained which then started a little argument in the hallway. She hated how
he was “all over” me (He only hugged me once) and how I kept supposedly hitting
on him..well.. I don’t THINK I was hitting on him.. I hope I really wasn’t. At
that time I was fed up with Emilee. She didn’t care. She never did. Plus, I
came to the realization that I felt like me and her were just friends. I didn’t
feel like I was in a relationship with her. So, I listened to my heart and
decided to leave her. On Valentine’s Day. Hey, I was her sexpal.
Best decision I ever made. I told Michael how I felt, and I lucked out.
He felt the same. We soon began dating and I just.. I don’t know.. He’s
amazing. Everything about him seems like it was made just for me. He gives me
butterflies that no one else ever did. He makes me feel special. I reeeeally
care about him. Our one month was Monday. I know that isn’t long, but me and
Emilee lasted a month and a half.

The only issue about dumping her
was that she started spreading STD rumors about me while still trying to get me
back. She must think I’m stupid. Her and Michael aren’t friends anymore, and I
feel bad.. I mean, I’m usually the type of person that will sacrifice my own
happiness for someone else. This time, I’m standing up for myself.

Me and dad still aren’t talking.
I e-mailed him the other day. I sent him a project I made in German.

My mom and I are on good terms.
Things are okay with Melissa.

Me and Nick are fighting again.

I’m back in counseling.

I’m in a band (The Dead of
Antietam)

Me and Michael Barron are still
close friends.

I’m rethinking who I choose as
friends.. -_-’

Otep is releasing a new album.

Rant about Racism

Warning: As I have said a
million times before, I am not trying to offend anybody with this post. In the
event that I do, please forgive me.  Everybody has different viewpoints
and opinions.  Just because you don’t like what I have to say doesn’t mean
you have to comment and tell me how much of a loser I am or how much I
suck..it’s just immature..

 

It surprises me that this is
still an issue. This is 2011. I did not think that so many people would still
be..let’s face it.. racist. You may not think it’s a big deal but I do. It’s
just foul. It’s disgusting how people could be so prejudiced in this day and
age.

I’m just putting this out there,
I may not be the nicest, most innocent person ever. I enjoy the occasional
“black joke” I mean, what’s not funny about a man repeatedly asking a woman for
her number? And me and my friends participate in a monthly “Ghetto Movie Night”
where we watch movies such as Phat Girlz, Beauty Shop, and the like. Never EVER
do we undermine black people. We never act as if we are better than black
people. So why are so many people still stuck in this state of mind? I mean, I
would understand it a little more if we lived in a small country where black
people were sparse, but we live in America. Every person in this country has
seen an African American at least once in their life.  I am sorry if the
term “black people” sounds a little bit racist. I’m not sure what the correct
political term is these days.

I think one of the biggest issues
about modern racism is that it is being spread to the children. I am living in
a very rural farmtown. I admit that there are not many african americans in my
school. I just don’t think it’s okay for the “black kid” in one of my classes
to constantly be made fun of for it. For example, this boy was once wearing a
brown shirt and a rather unpleasant white student asked him, ‘Hey (insert name)
Are you wearing a shirt?” I understand that this is just joking around, but I
really wonder if this black student is bothered by comments such as these. One
comment that I just can’t get over is when this SAME obnoxious boy said
“(insert name) my shirt is 100% cotton!” That is just disgusting to me. I don’t
know if I just read into things so much, but comments like this should not be
said. It’s wrong.  The scary thing is that this is just an annoying kid in
my math class. It makes me wonder if his parents are the ones who gave him this
type of mindset. If so, they seriously need to grow up and get a reality check.

This is just not for african
americans. The whole asian jokes are starting to get a bit annoying. It’s
like..reverse racism that’s still racism in a way. You know, the comments about
asians being good at math? There are bad comments too. Like how Asian men are
supposedly less endowed than white men, and how asians supposedly can’t drive.
It just doesn’t make sense.. The racism is everywhere. I see it very often in
fast food enviroments. People just assume that someone is lazy and white trash
just because they work at McDonald’s. People just don’t understand that when
there is a job open, you gotta take it. People need to work. You really can’t
be picky. The jokes about mexicans at Taco Bell irritates me too. I’ve seen
plenty of decent, cheery people at Taco Bell. Even if they did forget to take
the tomatoes off my chalupa. Point is, you can’t really judge someone based on
their color or place of employment. This is a diverse nation, we have many
kinds of people here.

Now we get into the scary part of
racism.. when things get violent. Thankfully, I don’t live in an area where
things like this happen. The sad truth is that people are still commiting hate
crimes based on race and race alone. Kids are getting shot, stabbed, attacked,
beaten. You can’t help your color. Nobody has the right to do anything like
that to someone. I’m generally opposed to violence in general. Hate crimes
repulse me and make me sick. This “gangsta thug rapppp” bull is probably
contributing to the problem. It isn’t just the white people doing anything
wrong. African americans get in their fair share of trouble. Then again, who
doesn’t. It seems to cross the line when teenagers are joining gangs and
shooting people up.

I guess this is partly blamed on
the parents. If children grow up in a loving household where they are taught
that everyone is equal, they won’t grow up a racist and violent person. I
wasn’t raised in a 100% loving household, but my parents taught me right from
wrong. They monitored the entertainment I was exposed to. At the age of 15,
they now think I am mature enough to handle violent and sexual lyrics. I do
have to say that many famous rappers should sort of..watch what they say.

I hope you get my point, I have
to get off the computer since this class is over in 2 minutes..

Okay..issues here.

I’m starting to get irrtated with
this here blog. It’s not the posting or the constant emails that bother me.
It’s the people viewing my blog that bother me.

1. If you don’t like it, get out.

If you don’t like the content I
post on my blog, provide a logical reason for it. Not one phrasers like “You
suck”, “You’re a loser”, and “Get a life” I haven’t made WordPress my life. In
fact, my posts have gotten much less frequent due to school and just general
business. Hey, I’m in the 3rd marking period of school now. Point is, nobody is
strapping you down and forcing you to read my blog. If you don’t like it, don’t
read it. If you don’t like a few of my posts, there is really no reason for you
to stay and read more. Chances are you won’t like it. I consider one phrasers
trolling. I also consider long paragraphs telling me how horrible I am under
the same category. There really is no reason for that. Especially since most of
these hate comments aren’t even on any of my rants. They show up on my posts,
“Letters from the Lonely Blogger” and “Hey guys!” a lot. If you really must
make fun of me over a blog, than you’re the one who needs to get a life. My
blog is my opinion. I’m not saying I’m always 100% right. I’m still figuring
the world out. I’m freaking 15, for god’s sake. Find somewhere else to flame,
better yet..look up a topic you WANT to read about.

2. Sexual stuff

I looked in my search engine
terms, and most of them that show up are gross. Such as, “mom and dad teaching
teenage girl to ****” In addition, if you google “MissMimsi”, a bunch of
teen porn pops up. My  blog should not be associated with this content.
It’s disgusting and foul. I have posts AGAINST that kind of thing. Just read my
posts about “Teen Sexuality” and “Teen Pregnancy”

Please stop this type of behavior
now.

Gay Rights. Where are they?

WARNING: As always, I am
not trying to offend anyone here. I know I probably will though. For the
remainder of this blog post I will be hiding in my cellar to prevent the certain
assault that I know I will face. Contains opinions, language and lack of
douchebaggery.

Alright people. What the fuck.
Why are gay rights still such a big fucking deal? I mean. It’s 2011. You’d
think people would understand that some people have different sexualities than
they do. Well..they don’t. What I want to know is..why?

Last night, I came out to my
audience of 468 FaceBook friends that I am officially a lesbian. Most people
responded in an encouraging manner. However, people are already beginning to
talk about it. There should not be this much goddamn controversy about an
unpopular 15 year old freshman girl coming out of the closet. Especially seeing
as how Manheim has more shit going on. By the way, this one is seeming to have
a lot of language in it, so if language offends you just leave now.

This brings me to a huge
question. Why are gay people not allowed to get married in some states? We’re
the same as everyone else.  Gay people work, they pay taxes, and they have
to do the same stuff that everyone else does. If America wants there to be less
hate crimes and prejudice, they need to get rid of these absurd laws. Putting a
barrier like this on something like marriage is not teaching our young children
tolerance. It’s just putting the idea of homosexuality being wrong in their
heads. It’s shit like that which causes people to kill people because of who
they love. Just think back to Matthew Shepard. Gay people have done nothing
wrong. Is the reason that gays are not allowed to marry just that marriage is
something usually honored by the Christian faith, and therefore us gays aren’t
allowed to experience it? Cause it’s not illegal for atheists to get married
and they don’t follow the Christian faith, obviously. It’s just bullshit how
“the land of the free” doesn’t let people marry just because they share the
same genitals. Or is it because they assume gays are promiscuous and will soon
get divorced? Cause that’s a common stereotype that I am sick of hearing. Gay
people may be kinkier in the bedroom. The only reason for that is that we can’t
just have regular sex. It’s even harder for us lesbians. I mean, we have to use
toys and other stuff. That automatically makes people think we’re slutty and
promiscuous. I don’t know about some people, but I’m not a slut.

Basically, I just want to know
why straight people think it’s wrong for us gays to get married. I mean, what
would they say if we told them “Oh, straight people can’t get married. It’s
disgusting and immoral” They’d probably be very pissed and start a huge riot
and everything. They’d demand that we let them get married and say that we’re
wrong. The only difference is that gays are the minority. If every other
minority has been given rights, why hasn’t ours? This prejudice needs to stop.
Frankly, I think the politicians are afraid of what they don’t understand. This
pisses me off.. instead of spreading their views everywhere, they should learn
how to accept other forms of love. Even if it goes against their religious
views. Whether they want to believe it or not, there are more types of people
in this world than straight Christians.

Now I will post a few comments
from my FaceBook. My status was “So, what do you guys think of gay marriage?
Should it, or should it not be legal? Don’t bother commenting if it’s just hate
comments. If you think it’s wrong, give me some fucking reasons why you think
so. Don’t just be all “Oh, it’s gross. Oh, it’s wrong, Oh, God said no””

1 Person says: gay marriage
should be legal everywere not just certain states so yes it should be legal so
yea

Another says: Well as a
catholic student im supposed to be against gays but girl u like what u like
screw it dont leave america stay it pisses ppl off more i totally would be at
ur wedding!!! I think gods gay (I had commented saying I was going to leave
America if gay marriage wasn’t legal before I am 18)

Another says: it should be
legal everyone should have their rights no matter who that person loves

Yet another says: gay
marriage= its everyone’s own choice. If a gay couple wants to get married, than
the government has no right to stop them. i hate people who contest gay
marriage, especially when their only protest against the matter is “the bible
says its wrong…”i mean, come on, get a brain of your own

See, if some kids from various
school districts around where I live can accept gay marriage as something that
should be legalized, why can’t the people who put prejudiced laws in place feel
the same? You’d think that kids would be more small minded that the government.
It’s quite sad really. Then again, if so far it’s the children saying it’s fine
then maybe our government can grow a pair soon.

I’ve decided to start posting on fellow blogging site, Blogger. I will still be
posting here, but not quite as often. If you still want to be up-to-date on
TheMissMimsi, go to my blogger site. The name is still TheMissMimsi, and you’ll
find that the only difference really is where I’m posting. Like I said, I will
still be WordPressing, but I just found that Blogger is more popular and
therefore, I can get my opinions noticed more. Shallow, I know.. But I just want
to inform people of what I think. I love you all.
